Things To Do in Buffalo NY With Kids

If you’re anything like me, I love to go out and do stuff.  Don’t get me wrong, I can be such a home-body at times but it’s simply nice some different scenery! Buffalo has a lot to offer families with kiddos. Everything from riverside hangouts, to beaches, to nature preserves and parks. Your options are limitless! Here is a list of my favorite things to do in Buffalo NY with kids!

Lakeside Spots

Buffalo has SO many beaches that you can take your little ones to for fun in the sun or just for a stroll along Lake Erie. A few beaches that pop-up in my head are Evangola State Park, Woodlawn Beach, Lake Erie Beach Park, and Sunset Bay. My favorite beach to take my boys to is Sunset Bay. We love to stroll the beach looking for beach glass and walk along the marina looking at the boats. Cabana Sam’s, a beach bar/restaurant is situated close by right on the beach which is awesome! Sometimes we will make a family outing of it, with the grandparents and all to get dinner and hang out on the beach to catch the sunset. I highly suggest checking it out this summer if you have never been!

Knox Farm

Another stunning location is Knox Farm State Park located in East Aurora about 20 minutes outside of Buffalo. Our family happen to live only about 10 minutes from Knox Farm, so we’re there quite a bit! Pathways flow throughout Knox Farm with rolling hills of open fields, a pond, a flower garden, and rustic buildings on location. There’s even a dog park! If you have a furry family member, they can be included in your family outing!

Tifft Nature Preserve

Tifft Nature Preserve is another favorite place to take my kids to explore. With paths leading to open fields of grass, its a haven for children who love to run, such as mine! Beyond that there is a boardwalk that intertwines through wetlands that hosts a variety of animals! I’m more of a nature lover than anything, so I’m always down for a scenic spot where I can teach my kids about creation. Tifft Nature Preserve so happens to be located just on the edge of the city so you’ll want to check out the next spot I recommend!

Canalside

Oh man, where do I begin. If you’re looking for more of an action-packed day, Canalside is definitely the right place to be! Canalside is at the heart of downtown Buffalo’s waterfront revitalization. There are so many activates you can do!  You can rent a kayak, paddle board and water bike, or take a Buffalo River History Tour. You can jump on the Queen City Bike Ferry to the Outer Harbor and its miles of hiking and biking paths and home to Tifft Nature Preserve. Craving ice cream? Stop by Clinton’s Dish or grab lunch at Liberty Hound. I can’t not mention Ralph C. Wilson Explore ‘n’ More Children’s Museum, a state-of-the-art place to play and learn, and after taking a tour of World War II-era ships at the Buffalo Naval and Military Park.

Thank you for reading along and I hope this helps you kick off summer right!
